Victoria Lanier
Executive Director, Education Through Music-Los Angeles
2022 HALO Award Recipient | 2024 HALO Award Selection Committee
Born to Asian immigrant parents in the United States, Victoria's earliest musical memories are of her parents singing songs in both English and their native tongue. Recognizing the importance of music in education, her parents enrolled Victoria in a public school system with a strong arts program. This early exposure to music became a critical bridge for Victoria, helping her connect with others and find a sense of belonging in a community where she was part of a minority. Victoria's musical education took a significant leap when she was accepted into the Juilliard Pre-College program, and after graduating from Princeton University, Victoria began her career in music education with Education Through Music in New York City. This experience ignited her passion for working with marginalized communities, combining her love for music, children, and social justice through systemic educational change. In 2006, Victoria founded Education Through Music-Los Angeles. This organization focuses on creating systemic change through providing comprehensive music education to schools in marginalized areas in Los Angeles.
