Communities in Schools LA

Volunteer: Jiten Mehta

Communities in Schools Los Angeles' (CISLA) mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Jiten Mehta began volunteering at CISLA in 2020 while he was completing his medical residency - a notoriously stressful time in a young doctor's life. Jiten surprised staff when he committed to supporting two students, working closely with each over 6-8 weeks to develop their personal statements. Jiten continued his participation by meeting with CISLA's Webster MS boys group to give advice about the medical field. The time and care Jiten puts into his commitment to the students he supports undoubtedly changes the trajectory of their lives. He walks alongside them through the critical final steps of their senior year, not only coaching them across the finish line, but helping them soar! Jiten continually meets his mentees with the kind of care that has a lasting impact.
