College Match

Volunteer: Regina Stagg

College Match is dedicated to provide high-achieving, low-income high school students in Los Angeles County the necessary tools and guidance to get into top-ranked colleges with significant financial aid packages.

Regina Stagg began volunteering with College Match in 2008, at a time when no formal volunteer program existed. Her persistence in seeking a meaningful way to contribute led her to become one of the first volunteer college counselors at College Match. She helped lay the groundwork for a program that now supports over 150 high school seniors each year. Regina brings a wealth of life and professional experience to her role. She helps students refine their narratives, meet application deadlines, and understand their financial aid options. Even during the pandemic, Regina remained fully engaged, conducting Zoom meetings and advocating for students. Most memorably, she helped one young woman secure an emergency passport by contacting her state representative so she could attend a prestigious STEM program in Mexico City—an act that embodies her fierce belief in student potential. Regina’s contributions extend far beyond her work with students. She has provided valuable input on scholarship processes, helped refine how College Match builds student college lists, and contributed foundational ideas to the Career Ready initiative. The students she mentors thrive—not just because they gain admission to top colleges, but because they emerge from the process feeling seen, believed in, and prepared. Regina stays in touch with her students through college graduation and often beyond, offering resume feedback, interview prep, and networking support. Regina is the type of volunteer who not only transforms lives but inspires a culture of excellence, equity, and heart across the entire organization.
