Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County

Volunteer: Trudy Goldberg

Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County (NLSLA) provides free assistance to individuals and families through innovative projects that expand access to justice and address the most critical needs of people living in poverty throughout Los Angeles.

Trudy Goldberg began volunteering with NLSLA after retiring from a 32-year career as a teacher in Los Angeles. She started volunteering with NLSLA over 13 years ago, after she ran into a former student at the annual fundraiser. Trudy primarily helps survivors of domestic violence find safety and stability for themselves and their families through the organization’s Self-Help Legal Access Center in Van Nuys. Her dedication, patience, and compassion have made a huge difference in the lives of so many women, but she insists she has gotten more than she has given. Throughout the years, Trudy has consistently been one of NLSLA’s most passionate, dedicated, and highly valued volunteers. Trudy has done everything from leading workshops, accompanying women going to court, and offering a hand to hold for moral support. Trudy shared that, "I have been emboldened—and I don’t use that word lightly—by the people I was able to help," she said. "They have shown me what’s possible."
