AWARD DESIGN

CAPACITY BUILDING SUPPORT

designed to build or enhance the organizational capacity around volunteerism. Support includes peer learning sessions, involving guided activities and discussions, and one-on-one coaching supporting the development and implementation of a volunteer management plan. 

$20,000 GRANT 

$5,000 AWARD 

for the nonprofit to strengthen, implement, and sustain the efforts of its volunteer program. This grant acknowledges a clear and thoughtfully written strategy to build the capacity and sustainability of the volunteer program.

for the volunteerdistributed by the nominating nonprofit organization. This award honors outstanding volunteers, with the funds used at the discretion of the volunteers.

The calendar below is the anticipated schedule of key events for the HALO Award program year for Cohort 8 (2018-2020).
Please note that dates are subject to change.

Application 
  • June 7, 2018 - Application Release
  • July 12, 2018 - Applications Due
  • November 2018 - Announcement of Winners
  • December 2018 - Disbursement of funds 
            Grant funds will be distributed by year-end 2018

Program Participation
  • February 2019 - HALO Award Recognition Luncheon 
            Celebratory luncheon to honor the 2018 HALO Award winners
  • May 2019 - Cohort 8 Peer Learning Session 1*
  • August 2019 - Cohort 8 Peer Learning Session 2*
  • November 2019 - Cohort 8 Peer Learning Session 3*
  • January 2020 - Cohort 8 Peer Learning Session 4* 

*Peer learning sessions are all-day gatherings that are mandatory and require participation 
by at least 2 of the same representatives from each organization 
 

REVIEW PROCESS

 

A Selection Committee, comprised of local nonprofit and foundation leaders, will select the winners of the award. 


Strong applications articulate:

1) a strategic, detailed vision for building the capacity of your organization by improving and sustaining volunteer program efforts and 

2) institutionalization of volunteer management in your organization's operations and strategic plans. 


We expect that every applicant has an extraordinary volunteer to nominate, so specifically highlighting how the volunteer has impacted the organization will strengthen applications.
